Public Finance Authority Approves $115 Million Financing for Brio Living Services Senior Living Expansion in Grand Rapids

New Facilities to Include 147 Independent
Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Skilled Nursing Units

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – The Public Finance Authority (PFA) has approved up to $115 million in revenue bond financing for Brio Living Services, a Michigan-based nonprofit senior living provider, to construct and equip new facilities at its Porter Hills Village campus in Grand Rapids Charter Township, Michigan.

The project will include construction of a replacement building featuring approximately 72 assisted living units, 36 memory care units, and 39 skilled nursing units, along with 57 new independent living units and associated common spaces and amenities. The development will expand Brio’s capacity to serve Michigan’s aging population with comprehensive, person-centered care.

“This financing enables Brio Living Services to continue its mission of welcoming all, partnering together, and enriching lives,” said John West, PFA Board Member. “By supporting the expansion of quality senior living options in Grand Rapids, we’re helping ensure Michigan seniors have access to the full continuum of care they need to age well with dignity.”

Brio Living Services is the result of a merger between United Methodist Retirement Communities, Inc. and Porter Hills

Presbyterian Village, Inc., creating one of Michigan’s leading senior living providers. The organization currently serves over 1,500 residents across five market-rate communities and operates a full continuum of care including independent living, assisted living, memory support, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, home health, and hospice services.

Brio ranks #85 on the 2024 LeadingAge Ziegler 200 listing of the largest nonprofit multi-site senior living communities in the nation. In addition to providing quality housing and services, Brio offers financial assistance and charity care for residents experiencing financial difficulties. The organization’s operations provide vital employment opportunities in the surrounding area while delivering essential housing options for seniors across Michigan.

This marks Brio Living Services’ second financing with the Public Finance Authority.
